New Dumpling Restaurant Concept Planned for Former Chicken Shack Space at The Forum in Selma

A vacant restaurant space situated within the greater San Antonio metropolitan area is gearing up for a significant overhaul, as plans move forward to replace a shuttered hot chicken establishment with a brand-new concept centered around dumplings. The property, which has sat unoccupied following the quiet departure of its previous culinary tenant, is slated to undergo an extensive redesign to accommodate the new dining destination.

The upcoming venue is set to take over Suite 112 at 8211 Agora Parkway, an address positioned inside The Forum shopping center in Selma. This particular retail corridor has experienced various tenant transitions over the years, making the arrival of a new culinary operator a noteworthy update for local patrons and shoppers visiting the commercial center.

According to recent regulatory submissions, the incoming business will operate under the moniker "Meet Dumplings." The project marks a distinct shift in culinary focus for the address, transitioning the storefront from fried poultry fare to an establishment spotlighting traditional and modern dumpling offerings.

Official documentation outlining the planned development was submitted to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) on September 1. Such public records often provide early insight into forthcoming retail and restaurant ventures across the state before physical alterations get underway on-site.

The project submission outlines an extensive schedule of interior renovations designed to reshape the layout and appearance of the storefront. According to the state records, the work will primarily focus on reconfiguring both the front-of-house dining space and the customer restroom facilities to meet the needs of the incoming concept.

Specific architectural and cosmetic upgrades detailed in the filing include the replacement and installation of new flooring throughout the unit. Additionally, contractors are slated to introduce fresh wall finishes, modern light fixtures, and several accompanying interior elements to establish a refreshed atmosphere suited for the dumpling eatery.

Transforming the former chicken restaurant into Meet Dumplings is projected to carry an estimated financial cost of around $70,000. This budgeted figure covers the planned interior modifications, aesthetic upgrades, and cosmetic overhauls required to bring the space up to the operational standards of the new tenant.

Regarding the anticipated timeline, the TDLR project filing indicates that construction work is scheduled to commence on October 1, 2026. The same public records establish a projected completion target date of July 31, 2027, giving the project a multi-month runway to complete all necessary tenant improvements.

However, as is common with commercial construction filings listed with the state licensing department, these project dates should be viewed as tentative estimates rather than guaranteed milestones. Regulatory timelines and projected completion dates frequently shift as permitting, vendor schedules, and building phases advance.

The commercial suite carries a notable history within The Forum's food and beverage landscape. Most recently, the location operated as The Cookshack, a dining establishment specializing in hot chicken and ribs that initially opened its doors at the Selma shopping destination back in 2023.

The Cookshack's tenure at the location came to an abrupt halt in February, when the restaurant ceased daily operations. At the time of the closure, a notice was placed on the entrance door informing guests that the business had paused service due to ongoing electrical problems, though the issues were never resolved and the restaurant remained permanently closed.

Before The Cookshack moved into Suite 112, the space was home to The Lion & Rose Pub, another former tenant that served area residents for years before eventually vacating the premises and opening the door for subsequent restaurant redevelopments.

The pending launch of Meet Dumplings has also raised questions regarding potential links to existing culinary ventures in other parts of Texas. Notably, an operating eatery sharing a very similar name, Meet Dumpling & Noodle, currently does business in Friendswood, a community situated southeast of the Houston metropolitan area.

Media inquiries were directed to the Friendswood restaurant through both phone calls and electronic mail using contact details listed on its official website. The outreach sought to clarify whether the planned Selma location represents an official expansion of the Friendswood brand or if the two entities are entirely separate ventures.

As of Wednesday, September 9, representatives for the Friendswood establishment had not responded to the inquiries, leaving any potential corporate or operational relationship between the two Texas venues unconfirmed at this stage of the project.

Despite the lingering questions regarding ownership ties, the state filing makes clear that the Agora Parkway storefront is preparing to enter a new chapter. Local diners in Selma and surrounding communities can anticipate the introduction of Meet Dumplings once the upcoming renovations conclude.
