Fatal Head-On Collision in New Braunfels Leaves Motorist Dead and Child Hospitalized

A catastrophic weekend collision along a busy roadway in New Braunfels has claimed the life of a 27-year-old motorist and sent a three-year-old child to the hospital after a pickup truck slammed head-on into a passenger sedan in an alleged drunken-driving incident. The tragic crash unfolded on Saturday evening, triggering a massive emergency response and a multi-hour shutdown of the surrounding traffic corridor.

According to statements released by the New Braunfels Police Department, the two-vehicle collision occurred at approximately 7:00 p.m. along the 2500 block of Farm to Market Road 725. The crash site is situated on the South Side of New Braunfels, a corridor that frequently accommodates steady local and regional commuter traffic.

When police officers and emergency medical personnel arrived at the scene, they discovered extreme structural damage to both the pickup truck and the sedan involved in the head-on collision. First responders immediately evaluated the occupants of the heavily damaged sedan, but the 27-year-old male driver, a resident of New Braunfels, had already succumbed to the severe traumatic injuries sustained in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A three-year-old passenger traveling inside the sedan managed to survive the violent impact. Paramedics determined that the toddler sustained non-life-threatening injuries during the collision and provided initial stabilizing aid at the roadside before arranging for emergency transport. The child was subsequently taken south to University Hospital in San Antonio for dedicated pediatric evaluation and further medical care.

Authorities confirmed that the next of kin for the deceased 27-year-old driver have been officially notified of his death. Law enforcement officials did not publicly release the specific relationship connecting the adult driver to the three-year-old child who survived the crash.

During the preliminary on-scene investigation, officers focused their inquiries on the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 25-year-old Rafael Alejandro Arreguin-Ramirez. Patrol officers and investigators observed that Arreguin-Ramirez exhibited clear and discernible physical indicators of alcohol intoxication immediately following the head-on wreck.

To secure forensic chemical evidence for the criminal investigation, law enforcement officers drafted and executed a formal blood search warrant at a local medical facility. Qualified healthcare staff obtained blood samples from Arreguin-Ramirez to officially evaluate his blood alcohol concentration at the time of the collision.

Following the execution of the search warrant and an assessment by medical personnel, Arreguin-Ramirez was transported directly to the Guadalupe County Jail. He was formally booked on felony charges that include intoxication manslaughter in connection with the death of the sedan driver, as well as aggravated assault with a deadly weapon relating to the injuries caused in the crash.

The scene became further complicated when a passenger riding in the pickup truck chose to flee the immediate vicinity on foot instead of remaining to assist or speak with arriving emergency units. Police identified the fleeing passenger as 23-year-old Alejandro Aguillen Acosta, who absconded into an adjacent residential neighborhood shortly after the vehicles collided.

Responding law enforcement units immediately established a perimeter and initiated a focused search of the surrounding residential streets to locate the missing passenger. Officers were able to quickly track Acosta's movements and successfully discovered him hiding inside the private garage of a nearby home.

Acosta was taken into custody without further disruption and was initially transported to an area hospital as a precautionary measure due to the physical stresses and trauma associated with the high-impact traffic collision. After receiving medical clearance, he was transferred to the Guadalupe County Jail, where authorities charged him with evading arrest or detention and criminal trespass of a habitation.

In their official briefings regarding the arrest records and identities of the suspects, the New Braunfels Police Department noted that both Arreguin-Ramirez and Acosta are from Mexico. Both men remained in the custody of the Guadalupe County correctional system following their formal processing over the weekend.

The severe mechanical destruction and the necessity of conducting a comprehensive crash reconstruction required authorities to completely close off the roadway to regular traffic. A section of FM 725 in the immediate vicinity of the 2500 block remained closed for approximately five hours while specialized collision investigators examined skid marks, cataloged physical debris, and safely cleared the vehicles.

The New Braunfels Police Department emphasized that the investigation into the fatal collision remains active and ongoing as investigators continue gathering evidence. Law enforcement officials noted that additional or upgraded charges may still be filed against those involved as the full analytical findings and investigative reports are finalized.
